Blackfriars Bridge

CITY OF LONDON, ONTARIO
DESCRIPTION:
Opened in September 1875, Blackfriars Bridge is a single span structure, over the north branch of the Thames River, connecting Ridout Street North to Blackfriars Street. The rehabilitation of the existing 140 year-old bowstring-arch-through-truss bridge included: 
  • Removal of the existing bridge from abutments and disassembly
  • Replacement of cover plates on top chord arches
  • Modification to top chord hangers and diagonal connection details
  • Strengthening of vertical and diagonal truss members
  • Rehabilitation of bridge bearings and top portion of the abutments
  • Modifications to the existing hand rail and posts
  • Reinstatement of the original lattice panels on pedestrian walkway
  • Erecting the rehabilitated bridge on new bearings
  • Installation of new street works, including curb and gutter, concrete paving, unit pavers and landscaping
